1) The ibert should have metric hardware, so you don’t have to carry an extra tool to constantly tighten the poorly designed clamp. The folks that designed this could have looked at how bikes are put together, and designed a clamp that works. As it is, it only fits on one out of our four bikes.

2) A 5 point harness or something similar that doesn’t require adjustment to get over baby’s giant helmet head would make loading and unloading a lot easier. Like a car seat, over the shoulders and click together.

3) Riding with the ibert is pretty awkward. I have to have my feet on the outside halves of the pedals, and my knees splayed apart, to keep from bumping the seat with my knees.

We have been using the ibert for a couple of years and it just kinda sucks. With a little thought and redesign it could be much more user friendly.

Not so very long ago, there was a television commercial that caused outrage in the parental community. This commercial was for a video game. The video game came with a tiny stationary bicycle that was hooked to the gaming console much the same way a normal controller would connect and the game was, basically, a long video of a path winding its way through towns and cities and through the countryside. The idea behind the game was "get your kids to exercise! Now your kids can go for long bicycle rides!" The answer from the parental community was "why not just put the kids on real bicycles and let them ride around?

The truth is that kids start loving bicycles from the time that they are very little. To most small children, riding a bicycle is the epitome of independence. With that bicycle they will be able to go wherever they want to go! They'll be able to go faster and travel farther than they can by just walking! In addition to the lust for independence, children naturally gravitate toward activities that use their bodies-exercise, Kids Bicycle play and bicycle riding are among the most popular hobbies for children.

Even infants love to bicycle, though obviously they do not do the peddling themselves. As soon as an infant is old enough and big enough to sit upright on his or her own and not rely on a parent for steadiness, he or she is old enough to don a bicycle helmet and be perched into the infant seat and taken for a ride. Infants love the motion of bicycles and are excited by how quickly the scenery passes them by.

So what age should a child be when you buy him his first bicycle? That depends on the nature of the child himself. Some kids are ready for two wheeled bicycles when they are four or five while others feel that waiting until they are six or seven is a better idea. Luckily bicycle manufacturers make children's bicycles in almost every size imaginable. Deciding to make the transition from tricycle or hot wheels to a bicycle is up to you. You know your son and daughter best. Are they ready to learn how to ride on two wheels? Are you ready for them to ride on two wheels?

Bicycling is an activity that is impossible to forget. It is something that people from all walks of life enjoy. If you needed further evidence of this, simply consider the amount of people who choose a bicycle as their primary mode of transportation! The love of bicycling can start at infancy, when you first strap your daughter into her extra safe infant seat and take her for a slow ride around the block. Before you know it, she'll be dragging you along the bike rack at the store and begging for two wheels of her own to ride around on!

I had been looking around for quite some time for a nice quality bike for my 6 year old daughter. I wasn’t impressed with what was offered at local stores, so I started looking online. This bike will cost you a little more that your average Toys R Us bike, but it is money well spent. What a great bicycle!! Not only is it super cute, it’s also a great quality purchase. The seat is very comfy, and my daughter is so thrilled. I got a little basket to go with it (Avenir Wicker Bicycle Basket with Black Velcro (Small), and she’s so excited to put her dolls and a bottle of water in it when we go for rides. Highly recommend it!!

This little beachy cruiser is an awesome bike. I wish it was bigger – I would ride it myself. The color is great. It was easy to put together. It is really sturdy. And excellent purchase.

Absolutely adorable girl’s bike. Some assembly required. No special tools, just a screwdriver and a couple of wrenches.

Kohler July 2, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Shopping for a new bike for my daughter, I was very disappointed by my local retailers. Their inventory was limited and over-priced. This Diamondback was the right size, best looking and best priced bike I found in a two-week search. The purchase via Amazon was typically flawless, and the bike was delivered faster than expected.

Easy to assemble, the tools needed are provided in the box; I had the bike operational in 30 minutes. On the first ride, my daughter got all kinds of comments about how cool her bike was!

However, there is an issue with a bearing in the rear wheel (this is pre-assembled) that I have yet to have repaired. There is a sound of metal rubbing inside the wheel. I suspect the foot brake mechanism is not properly seated (it’s been a while since I took one of these apart, but I remember that aspect of reassembly was a little tricky). The effect is this metal rubbing sound when the bike is coasting. But it is absent when braking (works fine) and peddling.

I need to check my warranty and repair options and that will decide whether my final review will be 2 stars or 4 stars….

I took the bike to a local retailer who also sells this bike. The warranty issue took a little longer than I expected, but a Diamond Back tech in the area came by and fixed the bike to my full satisfaction.

THIS IS NOW 4 STARS.

Totally happy with this purchase!
We purchased this bike seat about three months ago and love it. Our son is 10 months old now and he has loved it since the first ride. Prior to buying this I was torn between this and the typical rear seat; once we go this I never looked back. I can talk to my son as we ride and I know how he is doing. I am generally not the best bike rider (I used to crash into non-moving objects) but i think the weight in the front actually stabilizes my bike.
Don’t hesitate… buy this one.

Akuginow July 3, 2010 at 1:06 pm

This seat is really great! Putting it up front is such a good idea, and it turns biking into an interactive activity rather than basically another car seat. My daughter and I can interact. She says hi to everyone, points out the dogs and squirrels, screams “weee!!,” checks out the flowers I point out to her along the way – really, really fun. If you have a baby/toddler (over 1 year, obviously), and want to be able to spend lots of time riding your bike, I think this is the way to go. She also seems very comfortable in it.

A few imperfections (to warrant the 4 stars….) –

1. My knees do bump it a bit, and so do my husband’s when he tried my bike, but not on every peddle or enough to change the way I peddle. It seems like it’s mostly a problem while turning. I know other people have said theirs don’t bump at all, so it might be my bike. It isn’t enough to bother me, except it might on a longer ride. I have a very upright style of hybrid bike.

2. While it was very easy to attach the ’stinger’ to the bike, it was almost a no go getting the bike on. I had to jiggle jiggle jiggle and it still barely fit. There are two holes for the pin that holds the seat in place, and mine almost didn’t make it to the first hole, and then I had to use a hammer to get the pin through because it was such a tight fit – so I’m probably going to leave the bike seat on the bike, or end up not using it much. I wanted to post this (in a overall positive review) because after reading everyone’s rave reviews I was disappointed when I had such a hard time getting it on my bike, and when I realized it wouldn’t be super easy to switch between my bike and my husband’s. Again, I think it’s probably the shape of my handle bars that was the problem – just be aware that it may take more work than you expect to get the seat in place!

If you buy this seat, happy peddling to you and your little one!

I love this product and so does my 15m old son. Just to be safe, i took it to a local bike shop for them to install it and check on my bike to make sure its ready for the summer. This product allows you to interact with your child while riding. You are able to point out various animals and insects, interesting locations as you ride in the park or the street, which is great for learning. Secondly, its great for the child as they start to remember the neighborhood or the park more and more, and start being aware of distance they travel. From a safety standpoint, i am able to see if he trying to take his helmet off (means its time to go home). Thirdly, he loves it because he is able to interact with passing bikers and joggers, saying “Hi” to everyone and wave.

Definitely a buy!

Hahn July 4, 2010 at 1:21 pm

I’m sorry but this is simply not a safe option to carry your child. I cant even believe it is on the market.

Just think of what happens when you crash your bike. All of your momentum is moving forward. And with this carrier you put your child right between your heavy body and the handlebar, or pavement, or another vehicle or bike if you run head on into someone!!!! I can just imagine someone jamming on the brakes, the bike and child stopping but momentum carrying the bikers chest and body right down on to the top of their child’s head. I shudder to imagine the injury and trauma this might cause. Come on! Would you strap your child’s car seat to the front bumper of your car? When you are piloting a bike your first priority is to operate the bike, not making goo goo ga ga faces at your child!

Since your baby won’t be able to speak up I will….DONT PUT THEM IN THIS DANGEROUS POSITION.

As far as what to buy: Consider one of the tow behind the bike carts that has a full cover, a big ol orange flag so people see it, and a mechanism that keeps the cart upright even if the bike falls over. Also, your child has to have a helmet, they have to be able to hold their head up with the helmet on, and the helmet cannot fit sloppy on their head. If you cant find a helmet that is small enough to fit your toddler its because they are too small for a helmet!

We craigslisted a 12″bike for our kid. The training wheels were in a bad shape. We bought these based on the reviews. One reviewer said, “stop wasting time looking buy these!”. I am glad I listened. These are great!

Burrows July 5, 2010 at 12:46 pm

The product arrived on time and was a better quality than we had expected.
They are strong and well built.

Ives July 6, 2010 at 12:53 am

Got this for my son’s first bike and they’re so durable!! I’m glad I spent a few extra bucks on these rather than the flimsy plastic wheels most bikes come with. I’d strongly recommend these for anyone who wants durable training wheels.

Ibsen July 6, 2010 at 1:36 pm

Happy with this in all respects except that the curved cut out on the bike frame bracket is too small to fit snugly against the tubular, horizontal portion of the bike frame. The final assembly is still very sturdy and fully functional, but it’s obvious that the bracket doesn’t fit as designed and, as a result, there will be more scratch marks on the frame once the bracets are removed.

This basket is perfect for a child’s bicycle. It is sturdy and large enough to hold a jacket, book, water bottle, and snack. Definitely worth the price.

Fleming July 7, 2010 at 12:43 pm

So far this basket has been awesome, although the fact that it is held onto my bike with velcro makes me nervous, because I think someone might steal it (since it’s so awesome).

Bustamante July 8, 2010 at 1:16 am

I read all the reviews before I placed the order. It was cute small basket just as other people mentioned. The dimension ( I measured the interior of the basket.) is Width: 10 inch ( the widest part )/ Depth: 7 inch/ Hight: 6 inch. It is big enough to put 6 oranges, size wise.. I like my basket. The little problems are, 1) the velcro is little bit short for my handles. 2) The basket ( velcro ) comes off from handle when I go over the bump on the street. 3) When I put a small water melon , about 4 Lbs weight, the velcro came down from the handle. This is not for heavy shopping anyway. Still, I am happy because of the look, and it goes with my little folding bicycle look anyway. Since I live in Down Town LA, when I lock my bicycle at a market parking, I always take the basket with me. It is very easy to remove the basket from my bicycle. The price was very good deal as well. I am happy about my purchase.

Fellows July 8, 2010 at 1:06 pm

I was looking for a basket for my daughter’s beach cruiser, and came across this. I thought for the price, I couldn’t go wrong! It came & I was so excited. It is the perfect size, fits her bike perfectly and she loves it. She goes for rides and is able to easily take it on and off for picking flowers or taking her little puppy for a cruise. The handle is great also, she loves to carry it around. We have personalized it with adding some flowers to the front. It is perfect for a child, but would not reccomend it for an adult size bike.

Dupont July 9, 2010 at 12:59 am

These training wheels are not safe! I installed them on my duaghter’s 12″ bike. The braces do not fit securely around the bike frame and are made of flimsy metal. If she hits a bump, the brace/ training wheel rotates causing my daughter to crash!

Hull July 9, 2010 at 1:34 pm

If you need to mount these on a 20″ bike, do not bother unless you like training wheels that are ineffective and do not go down to ground level.

For smaller bikes these are probably fine, but the assembly is a bit wonky and may not properly fit the bike.
